Artist Statement

I work every day to create the best ceramic piece I can. I try to make my work both functional and sculptural. I try to the best of my ability to create all my work to be ascetically pleasing.

I pick the type of clay by the piece I am making. If I am making a function piece, I try to use clay that is more durable and easy to use in its function. The glaze colors I also try to coordinate with the piece I'm making. If I am making a realistic piece, I try to match the color to the best of my ability to look as realistic as possible. If the piece isn't realistic, I pick the colors based on what I think will look good when it comes out of the kiln. I am a very color oriented person and I like my things to match and color coordinate. In all of my pieces, I believe color is the final touch to make the piece go over the top.

When I started ceramics in 9th grade, I was always the first one done with all of my projects. I was also extremely ahead of everyone in the class. Over the years, I have learned to slow down my work and complete my work within the allotted amount of time. I have also learned to focus more on the overall presentation of my work rather than rushing to finish the assignment.
